A Taste of NYC: Kyotofu

The sister loves desserts. I love savory foods. Together we can never figure out what to eat. This time we chose Kyotofu an adorable Japanese dessert bar in Hell’s Kitchen. We went planning to get a small meal and dessert. It instead turned into food and a walk to get a McDonald’s cone.

We started off with the Artisanal Tofu which includes three sauces (sesame soy sauce, tomato olive oil, and kuromitsu sauce). The tofu is made in-house daily and is to die for.

Next I opted for the braised pork. Pork is one of my favorites so once I got the dish I knew I’d be a fan. Again, delicious. The only critique that I have is that it would have been better with a little less radish. I found that the meat would disappear with so many competing flavors.

The sister chose a side of taro chips and side salad (not featured) that she said were great. I’m not a fan so I decided not to try them.

Next time we come back it will be a primarily dessert focused trip since I owe the sister.

A Glimpse of NYC: Oysterfest

This past Saturday the sister and I went to NYC’s oysterfest. We had this living social deal which gave us 2 drink tickets and 6 oyster tickets. The weather was great and they opened up the roof to let in the sunlight. It was a great time enjoying oysters while basking in the sun. Below are the oysters we picked up during the first lap. My favorite as always was the salty oyster. Delicious!

Breakfast At Tiffany’s… Or Some Wine

As I mentioned before I get some pretty cool perks from my job. A recent one was a sunglass event. The long and short of it is that we venture to Sunglass Hut which is reserved for the event. Then we enjoy some wine and food while trying on sunglasses. Everyone gets $200 gift cards and an additional 10% off if you make a purchase during the event. Not too shabby.

Being the epic planner that I am, I did a previsit to Sunglass Hut and spent some time looking online before the event. I had my eye on some of the Tiffany sunglasses. I had a great time with my coworkers trying on pretty much all of the sunglasses but ended up at a deadlock between a pair of Tiffany and Gucci sunglasses. A few glasses of wine later = an hour of debating/asking opinions, I finally came to my decision.

I love how the black frames really contrast with the Tiffany blue to make the color pop. The heart key charm on the side is another aspect I love. These sunglasses came with perfect timing. With the nice weather we’re planning a housewarming BBQ and I will definitely be rocking my new shades.

The Quest For a New Purse

I’ve taken a break from blogging to concentrate on my career. Now that I’m on a good track and am no longer doing interviews, I figured a quick update is necessary. The first piece of business is the news that the fiance and I are officially living together in the big apple! Second is a small wedding update, we’ve finally come up with a semi-wedding date! We’re thinking January/February 2015 (but this is likely to change).

Anyways, I’ve been on a quest to find a new purse for a while now. The last one I got was a gold Marc Jacobs crossbody which I LOVE. It’s so versatile including an option to extend the purse by unzipping the bottom. It’s not sold anymore, but you can get it on ebay for $795 here. The only link to an actual store (in a different color) that I was able to find was Bergdorf Goodman.

my all-time favorite purse

For over a year now I’ve been on the search for a new everyday purse. I did receive a few more as bday/anniverary presents from the fiance which I also love but the size/style didn’t work well for an everyday purse that I could bring to work. The main obstacle is packing my wallet, keys, umbrella, lunch, and notebook. I’m too small to carry big purses so it’s always difficult to find one that can fit what I like to carry and not look like a weekend bag.

A few weeks ago I was browsing gilt (I always look but only buy the NYC city deals) and I came across a Rebecca Minkoff sale. I’ve always loved the M.A.C. collection because of the tassels and buckle in the front. After a few rapid kako talks with family/friends I took the plunge on a M.A.C. Daddy in sage.

What are your opinions? Because I, for one, am in LOVE!
